December 13th, 2019 by Corey A Edwards

Hoggetowne Medieval Faire 2020Visit a magical world of knights, wizards, and fair maidens when the Alachua County Fairgrounds are transformed into Hoggetowne Medieval Faire. Three full weekends at the beginning of the year: January 18-19, 25-26, 31 and February 1-2, 2020.

There’s nothing quite like a medieval renaissance fair. Equal parts historical fantasy and fantastic fun, Hoggetowne includes live entertainment, shopping, food, contests, rides, and more.

Vikings at the Gate!

Each year of the festival sees a different theme.

The theme for the 34th annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire is “Vikings at the Gate.” Among other things, this means that the Tournament Field’s Living Chess Match will see lots of combat as leaders of the realms band together against the Viking horde.

That’s not all you’ll see at the Faire, however!

Visitors to Hoggetowne will feel as if they’ve been whisked away to a medieval village complete with real blacksmiths, a marketplace full of craftspeople, wandering knights, nobles, jesters, and more.

Jousting at Hoggetowne Medieval Faire 2020One of the biggest draws is the jousting. Yes, you read that right: live jousting by knights in armor on real horses. Come watch the lists, then meet the brave knights and their magnificent steeds.

The marketplace is teeming with artisans of all stripes showing off their wares. More than 160 craft vendors showcasing handmade metalwork, jewelry, sculpted stone, wood carving, weaving, hand-blown glassware, leather crafts, and period fashion.

The live entertainment is non-stop, whether you’re at one of the Faire’s 9 stages or simply wandering through the crowd. Wildfolk, jugglers, knife throwers, minstrels, stilt walkers, gypsy dancers, falconers, and mummers, to name but a few.

You’ll even get a chance to see the the King and Queen. They, along with all their subjects, make a public procession through the Faire twice a day. Huzzah!
