Get creative at Gainesville’s Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention. This modern museum, from the inventor of Gatorade, features two-stories and 26,000 square-feet of interactive science and technology exhibits.
If you fancy yourself creative, inventive, or just plain inquisitive, you’ll enjoy a visit to the Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention.
The museum is located on Gainesville’s South Main Street, near Depot Park. The museum was named after physician, musician, researcher, and inventor Dr. James Robert Cade. Dr. Cade is likely best known for being an instrumental part of the team that invented … Gatorade!
The original Gatorade recipe was designed as an oral rehydration therapy for members of the University of Florida Gators football team. You can learn more about its formulation and affect at the Cade Museum’s Sweat Solution exhibit.
Inside the Cade Museum
The Sweat Solution may be the Cade Museum’s only permanent exhibit – but it certainly isn’t the only exhibit. The museum is home to an endless series of interactive technology and science exhibits.
Cuban Ingenuity: The Artistry of the Everyday Inventor is the current temporary exhibit on display at the Cade Museum. The exhibit highlights the innovations and inventions born of necessity in a culture lacking access to many emerging technologies. Dozens of ingeniously repaired, repurposed, redesigned, and reinvented objects are on display. The exhibit runs through December 31st, 2019.
Other attractions at the museum include:
Learn to think like successful inventors do in the Creativity Lab. This gallery offers visitors a chance to experience hands-on activities with tools, equipment, and supplies they won’t find anywhere else.
Learn to use state-of-art technology and traditional tools and materials to build robots, fire rockets, prototype ideas, and much more. Children under the age of 8 are not permitted into the Fab Lab for safety reasons.
The Cade Museum also hosts a new inventor every Saturday. Meet the inventor and learn about the science behind their invention. You’ll soon discover your own inspiration sparked with hands-on fun in the musem rotunda.
