The NHRA Gatornationals celebrates its 50th anniversary this year with a colossal blowout featuring a who’s who from the NHRA’s early days of drag racing. A ‘bucket-list’ event for any devoted drag racing fan – March 14th through the 17th, 2019.
Gainesville Raceway held the first Gatornationals in 1970, less than a year after it opened in 1969. The Gainesville Raceway is one of the NHRA circuit’s fastest tracks, known as a place where records are both regularly set and broken.
NHRA Gatornationals are held each March at the Gainesville Raceway but this year is really going to be something special. The event is the pinnacle of the NHRA Legends Tour, and many iconic figures from the sport’s early days will be on hand. Legends like “Big Daddy” Don Garlits, Shirley Muldowney, Kenny Bernstein, Joe Amato, Ed “The Ace” McCulloch, “The Bounty Hunter” Connie Kalitta, and “Big” Jim Dunn are all expected.
Of course, each race at Gatornationals is a star all on its own.
The event is the traditional East Coast opener and offers the season’s first Pro Stock Motorcycle race. The busy weekend will also see competitions in the 10,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragster and Funny Car classes. Other classes include Top Fuel Harley, Factory Stock, Pro Mod, Top Alcohol, Nitro, and Sportsmen. A full schedule for the weekend can be found here.
