Wings of Dreams Aviation MuseumWings of Dreams Aviation Museum, at Keystone Heights Airport in Starke, FL, is an aviation enthusiast’s wonderland of historic aircraft, space program artifacts, and military vehicles. Anyone with a fascination for aviation or military vehicles should visit Wings of Dreams!

The varied collection at Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum often surprises visitors. Finding a collection of vintage military vehicles and planes is one thing. Add in space program artifacts, various uniforms, and a host of exhibits and you might think you were at a much larger museum.

In fact, Wings of Dreams has been so successful in its collections that they’re planning a larger facility to accommodate them all. The multi-phase construction plan includes an aircraft restoration facility, along with a library, gift shop, restaurant, and more.

The ever-growing collection includes a Piper L-43 Grasshopper, a Douglas C-47 Skytrain, and a Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star. Vehicles include a 1943 Bomb Service Truck, a Bomb trailer, and a Ural motorcycle with sidecar. The Navy Aircraft Carrier Shop Tug is particularly impressive. How on earth do those little boats pull such huge carriers?

It’s a toss up which draws more attention – the planes or the space program artifacts.

Wings of Dreams collection includes a variety of vintage NASA gear, including a big, orange, space shuttle fuel tank. They also have Space Shuttle and Hubble Telescope training simulators used to train the astronauts. Johnson Space Center’s old Mission Control station is here, as well, along with a variety of other space-training equipment.

Exhibits at the museum cover a wide range of subjects, including WASP history, WWII Subchasers, and the Doolittle Raid. You’ll also learn about the Flying Hutchinson Family, Heavy Bombers of WWII, and America’s space program.

Wings of Dreams Aviation Museum isn’t just a collection of historic planes and vehicles. It’s location also has historical significance!

Keystone Heights Airport has a rich military history. It was formerly Keystone Army Airfield, an Army Air Corps air base that trained pilots during World War II. It also served as a home-field for one of the fighter pilot squadrons that took part in the Invasion of Normandy. Consequently, part of the museum’s mission is to preserve the airport’s wartime history before it is forgotten.
