Spring! Who can deny the season’s warm and friendly embrace? It is contagious! What better way to express your happiness at the end of winter than with a lively street fair? The annual Bradford County Strawberry Festival fits the bill with its celebration of one of everyone’s favorite sweet, juicy berries – the strawberry!
Bradford County is known for its strawberry harvest: the “sweetest strawberries this side of heaven.” Strawberries are so popular, it is estimated that your average American eats three-and-a-half pounds of them a year! Bradford county’s annual strawberry festival is one way of saying thanks for the harvest and deliciousness of this amazing and beautiful little fruit.
The Bradford County Strawberry Festival transforms downtown Starke’s historic district into a family-friendly block party for one full weekend in April. The event regularly attracts over 12,000 visitors each year. The streets of downtown Starke are lined with vendors booths, performers, and crowds of festival goers.
You’ll find crafts from local artisans, food carts, classic cars, pony rides, acrobats, a dunking tank, and even a greased pig contest. Talk about a classic good time! The festival also includes live music, carnival rides for the kids, a Strawberry Stampede 5K Fun Run, and helicopter rides!
When it comes to food, you’ll find no shortage at the Bradford County Strawberry Festival! Vendors will be offering mouthwatering barbecue, seafood, salads, sandwiches, chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, and much more!
Of course, the main focus of the festival is fresh, ripe strawberries! If you love strawberries, this event will help you to get your fill!
You’ll find fresh strawberries, strawberries in syrup, strawberry ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream, strawberry smoothies … in short, all manner of fresh strawberry treats are available. The big hit, of course, is the strawberry shortcake from the Berrylicious truck. People line up all weekend for the heaping dishes of strawberry shortcake they serve – Mmmmmmm!
The Bradford County Strawberry Festival is free to attend, so go ahead! Come on out and take a taste of the sweetest event around.
